I went to the JP court to pay for a speeding ticket I got about 6 weeks ago. When I got tho the clerk counter the clerk said I could not pay for the ticket because the sheriff office has not turn in the ticket. I told them that I have a copy of the ticket could I just pay them . They said the sheriff office still must turn the ticket in. I told her that I wasted gas just to come down here and if the county is hurting for funds why do they operate this way. She said it is SOP.

Sorry fellow blogger for letting me rant

Imatool- You need to wait until just a few days before the court date to go there and pay. If you would've called, they would've told you that.

Man, punish people (wasted time plus gas) because they wanted to pay their ticket early?
I hope you didn't have to use vacation time to go and talk to that clerk.

I got one a few months back, and I just sent it in! Just get an evelope, stamps and send it in, it's the easiest way. I made sure I took a photocopy of everything I sent too. Good thing I decided to do it that way, because when I went to the actual place (Bandera Rd) the line was too long and I couldn't wait. Then, when I called, they said the ticket hadn't been turned in but to JUST SEND IT IN! Boy, what a waste of time that would have been to stand in line all that time.

what you really needed to do was wait untill your arraignment date , then go in and demand that the court produce a verified complaint on the Notice to Appear( other wise known as a ticket.) You see that is your constitutional right in every state . The verified complaint must come from the injured party ( how was the cop injured?) it must be signed in front of a notary( The notice to Appear is not signed by the cop ) the cop doesn't sign the ticket he prints his name , thats not a signature ! so it can't be a verified complaint . Check out my many other post on this subject.

sometimes its also known as owning up to your responsibility and not trying to get out of a penalty for something that you knowingly did that was wrong/illegal.

Now, if the offender was truly not at fault, then I can see going an arguing your case in front of a judge.

accepting responsibility is nothing to be ashamed of.

So you're either a lawyer, or a person who gets lots of tickets/Notice to appears?
