CPS Energy says on its website (http://www.cpsenergy.com/About_CPS_Energy/News_Features/News/06252009_Peak_Demand_Record_NR.asp - broken link), “It’s unusual for a new peak-demand record to be set in June because so many people are on vacation and many schools are out of session,” Barrow noted. “Normally records for electric use occur in late August or September.”

And this is surprising?? Hello! That Microsoft data center you were so proud to get is your single biggest energy user. Are we all paying the price for it now?

no, you are overpaying CPS well we are....

back on topic, they are building a bridge from the claveras site to brauning lake plant, that way their vehicles and equipment wont have to take public roads.

but on the plus side, I am benefiting from this aswell as a load to Calaveras or Brauning is about 140 dollars

so Thank you I appreciate your business.

Well population growth is also another factor. Its not like SA has less people now than it did before.

On a related note, I heard on the news that the Calaveras Lake generating facility is offline today with some kind of mechanical problem. While it's offline, CPS expects they'll be unable to generate enough electricity to meet the demand, so they'll have to make up for the difference by buying more expensive electricity from the Texas state grid. That'll mean higher bills next month.
