I'm hoping by getting involved in this discussion will help me also. I live in Cibolo a town in San Antonio that's in the country. I have had a hard time getting "high-speed" IS. Reading most of the comments to your question has made me even more leary to getting service. I am so sorry you're going through this.
My question is does anyone know of an ISP that is good, realiable, and won't put me in the poor house? I too am looking for this because of my job. I am trying to change professions, so having high speed is not a option it's a nessity. So please someone help me!!
Good luck and thank you !

I've had much better dependability from AT&T DSL than I ever had from T-W's cable modem service. I switched to their Elite service when I was working from home because I had the same need for rock-solid broadband. It's a little slower than T-W, but the price is comparable.

BTW, just a heads-up for people considering a reply to posts above discoqueen's #21... those posts are from April of 2007.

Just to throw it out there, but I know it probably won't help most people who are in SA as I think it's an "outside city limits/Bulverde" thing - we have GVTC and could not be happier. We have phone and high speed internet (fiber to the home) through them for $112 per month. Phone has included long distance, voice mail, call waiting, all the bells & whistles I want.

GVTC does offer cable TV and security monitoring too but we don't use them for those services presently.

Anyway, for those of you in the GVTC area, they're pretty good!

wow...i'm slow. i actually double, no triple checked the date she posted! lol. anyways...what do you all think of AT&T's UVerse? That's what i have and i have the slow version, not the high speed... and it works great. this is not the same as the AT&T DSL that works from the satellite. these are fiberoptic cables. we switched all services from TWC when they dropped the cowboys games. AT&T uverse has the nfl network! lol. the only downside is that they do have to dig up your back yard to drop the lines and it does take a long time to install. but the service is good. oh, you have to check availability because its not available everywhere in SA.

I currently have TWC bundle service for phone, internet, and digital cable. I have had TWC for over a decade. I MUST have high speed internet for my job (I work from home).. and I had Grande a couple years ago for about six months but quit them because they were idiots with billing and their "high speed" internet was very slow. They offered faster service for more money but at that point it became the same cost as TWC, and I like TWC's cable better (love that "on demand" feature).

I need to find a company that knows the true meaning of "customer service" and TWC is NOT IT.

So anyway, I am hoping to dump the TWC phone and internet if I can find a comparable alternative in terms of price and speed. I would LOVE to hear your input on this!! I am moving and figure this is the best time to switch anyway so let me hear your input on this one and I'll be forever grateful!

Thx!
I have directway/hughesnet its bundled with my tv package about 150 a month for both, thats including HD and another reciever.

Yep, I was wondering why "my" old thread was here. Boy was I mad then!! I still hate TWC, but I still put up with them. For the record.

I have AT&T Uverse... no problems with them .. High Speed is good for what I use it for.. television is okay.. the only problem I have is the remote doesnt work from a distance.. you have to actually almost be on top of the set top to make it work.. other then that I am satisified with it...

Talking I just dumped TWC for Uverse!

I just had it w/ TWC this morning. I called them to complain that my DVR didn't record my In Demand baseball game last night, even though I set it, saw the red "record" light come on, and all before I turned off the TV last night. This morning, no game. That happens here and there, and there is no explanation for it. The guy tried to tell me that I'm not allowed to record those baseball games anyway! Then I got mad, because I paid $170 for the season, plus $10 a month for the DVR, and there is no way I would have paid that if I couldn't record the games. The west coast games I watch come on after 9pm usually, and I can't sit there after midnight watching TV, I have to wake up early!
After the ding-dong at TWC disconnected me (hung up on me probably) he never even called back, then I called them back, and of course TWC's lines were all busy. Typical.
Just this week I got another info packet from AT&T for the U-verse. I had seriously looked into it earlier this year, but didn't switch because they had no phone service, and I have three services w/ TWC, phone, internet, cable and I wanted to make a clean break. Well now, at least in my area, they have U-verse Voice, which is just like the TWC digital phone for the same price. So I made the decision to call AT& T and make the switch. I got quite a few deals, so if somebody here hasn't already suggested it, call them up and see what they can do for you. (866/406-3705) I can't tell you if the service is good or not, because I just switched today. Whoo hoo! I feel so liberated about getting rid of TWC! :-))))))))))))))))))))

I used Grande up until about 4 months ago, then we switched to TWC when we found out it was available in Alamo Heights. The only reason we switched to TWC was because it's cheaper than Grande and they had the 15 Mbps internet with Powerboost (which makes a big difference). We never had any problems with any of them. TWC internet is faster and cheaper.
