What do you propose is causing these fires?
No one said dead grass wasn't flammable.
MM seemed to be offering evidence that a cigarette but wouldn't ignite a gas pump at the gas station in reply to Dopo's post.

Step away from the fumes!!!

I see way too many people sticking full ash trays out the window and dumping them out on red lights...

If you smoke, at least have the courtesy to confine it to your own car, instead of everywhere BUT your car. It's really rude.

End rant...

for now.....
Agreed, and it's even worse if you ride a motorcycle. One several occassions I have "caught" someone's flicked cigarette in the chest!

And my Mythbusters reply was in response to the claim that a flicked cigarette in a gas station could cause the place to blow up. That is a television/movie myth...

Another reason to support VIA. Not only does VIA support less litter on our streets, it helps people kick the habit of smoking.

a lot of those are caused by people taking shortcuts to the access roads during traffic delays. catalytic converters get really warm and this added to the really dry grass, well you know the rest

I once saw a guy get out of his car at the traffic light on 281 at Evans, retrieve a cigarette butt from the pavement and attempt to hand it to the driver of the car in front of his who had just tossed it there. The driver refused to take it back.

Although I admired the guy's moxie, it's not something I would do. Why take the chance of starting an ugly confrontation with someone who might be armed?

+4 for using the word moxie in a sentence and I had never heard of the soft drink before

I think people around here just need to stop littering in general. I have seen people toss stuff out of their windows while driving and while stopped at a light. and a late night stop at any wally world or HEB parking lot will show you just how bad the pigs are in this city. I've never seen anything like it anywhere else I've lived.

"Don't Mess with Texas" my ass. Apparently it doesn't apply to actual people who live in actual Texas. There's more litter here than anyplace else I've lived.
