I'm converting the a/c over on my wife's car this weekend and would like to find a place to recover the small amount of R-12 that's left over. Anybody know a place? The closer to the northside, the better! I'd like to keep the cost down since they're getting something with a decent value out of this, but what might a place charge?

Might have to take you up on that this Saturday... maybe with a some freon in the tank someone will snatch it off Craigslist a little faster.

I thought about not converting to 134a at all since the cost of freon has gone down some, but there's the convenience factor of the new stuff and the fact that all my stuff has the new fittings anyway... I guess the cost of R-12 has gone down since there's so much less demand these days.

i finally did convert over my old 72 chevy truck. really didn’t want to because the truck is low miles and original; but the cost of r12 and the cost of the compressor did the trick. it does work fine with the new stuff, and services should be lots cheaper.

im off on Saturday, company party around 1pm but im thinking the heat will drive everyone home quickly.

Is the morning good? That'd give me time to make it back home without roasting, and give the engine and accessories enough time to cool off before the late afternoon.

Steve just let it go into the Ozone, who cares about the penguins LOL Just kidding everybody, no need to stone me!

I converted from R12 and all it cost me was 20 dollars! the fittings are dirt cheap at that AC Place off San Pedro Ave (by 410) they just screw on, noo need to buy new AC lines. Make shure you flush the compressor, so the new refrigerant wont get contaminated.

Yep, I'm flushing the lines with compressed air, changing the compressor oil and as many o-rings as I can reach. I have a handfull of fittings left over from the last car I converted. That one was a little easier because the freon was long gone. But the place they hid the low side... Nearly impossible to connect anything to it because it was pointing towards the engine block!
