What about buying land? I would like to purchase 5 acres in a nice area of the Hill Country.

Good plan. The problem is that everyone wants 5 acres in a nice area of the Hill Country. It is available, but not cheap. Closer to Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and the edges of SA will be expensive. The farther from town you get the less you will spend.

Try Mill Creek which is Northwest of Georgetown.

Try the medina lake area for land. Not as expensive as other areas just outside of SA.
