Thanks for posting....at last night's Missions game, there were about 40 young men and women that allowed us to witness (one of) their swearing-in ceremonies. I got a little misty-eyed. I remember that morning 24 years ago when "I, stated my name"......like it was yesterday. Lots of brave people enlisting right now, given the current state of the world. I wanted to serve my country, but it was during a time of relative peace--gotta give these young ones extra kudos since they know where they are likely to shipped off to.

What you saw at LCpl Laras procession was the bikers known as the "Patriot Guard". They ride for military members funerals because there are wackos out there that will actually try to protest at the services/routes of these heros. People against the war are so insensitive to these heros loss that they try to get their point across by protesting by "crashing" events.
The patriot guard will ride to ensure that they are able to "block" anyone trying to use these services to show anything other than the total respect these people deserve. There purpose on their website is to : Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.

These guys do it free of charge, because they care and because they want to ensure that the family is not put thru anymore stress.
These are great guys...my hat is off to them.

And I imagine that all of the police on the freeway cross over is two fold, respect and to keep demonstrators at bay. I did see a person climbing around under one of the crossovers with firemen above. I hope he wasn't up to no good. He was on the opposite side from the procession. I must say I was out of the loop on what was happening. I haven't been listening to that much local news lately. It was only after the procession and just before I got to Bussey's that I heard the announcement on the radio.
