Has anyone been over to Garner State Park recently? I am wanting to go, but not sure how the river is at the moment. We went last year 3 times during the summer, when it also had not rained for a while, and was surprised to see so much water still. But not sure about this summer. We want to go, but not if the river is "empty", or if there is stagnant water, and nothing to cool off in. That's the best place to go to get away from this heat (besides filling your tub with ice water and soaking in it).

Thanks!

I haven't been since 1993, sadly. I used to go ever summer. I think I'll try to make it back there next summer and climb "Baldy" again! It's such an awesome place.

I went to Garner back in May. The river was pretty low in most places.... however the dammed up part of the river was still optimal for swimming. Several feet deep.

There's a link to it on the right side of the page "Frio rv at Concan, TX" I'd post it directly but its javascript.

I haven't been to Garner since 1983 on a high school trip, but have fond memories of it. I remember diving off the banks into the lake-like area close to the dam. It must must have been 8 or 9 feet deep and you could see all the way to the bottom. Are conditions still like that near the dam? There also used to be a rope swing close to the dam. Is it (or hopefully a replacement) still there?

Rio Frio is great! We just camped on the opposite side of the river from Garner State Park this past weekend, and it was fine. It has been better, but there is still plenty of water. Just take plenty of iced-down beer.

Thanks, my problem was I was using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Firefox didn't show all of the other info.

Going there next week! Thanks for the updates.
