I used to pass by a shop before I moved to San Antonio that sold all kinds of Russian stuff. Food, drinks, whatever. Is there anything like that here? I've heard of a place called Ali Baba's, but is there anything else? There's gotta be at least an Asian market and maybe a European place somewhere. All I've seen so far are a couple of half-rows at an HEB.

BTW I'm excluding Mexican places from what I'm asking about because those are easy to find - this is everything else.

There are several large Asian grocery stores around Rittiman Road from Harry Wurzabach over to I-35. There was also a Puerto Rican grocery store on Nacogdoches just north of 410, but I don't know if it's there any longer.

There's a European deli / market in the Stone Oak area off Stone Oak and Huebner (located in a strip mall behind Sonic). I believe it's called Europa --- nice selection of a wide range of European meats, cheeses, canned goods

Ali Baba's sells stuff from all over the world, including Russia. It's the only place I've been able to find Bosnian sausage (not exactly civapi, but sausage from Bosnia) and some Russian kajmak. Not to sure how kajmak would taste from a can and I didn't get it because the prices were a little more than I was looking to spend that day. I should stop by there again in the near future. Their pita bread is great all by itself and it's dirt cheap.

There is a Puerto Rican (Boricua) grocery at Harry Wurzbach & Rittiman near Ft. Sam. Look for the big PRican flag painted on the window in the strip center. There's a good Indian grocery and variety store in a strip center at Wurzbach & Evers - good prices on authentic foods. I've heard there's an Indian variety store/grocery at Fredericksburg & Wurzbach but have not been there personally. There's also supposed to be a Sahara Middle East Grocery on Evers near Wurzbach/Bandera but have not been there personally. And of course, you'll find all the Asian markets at I-35 & Rittiman in those strip centers just east of 35.

Sweet - I'll have to check it out later this week! That's almost within walking distance. And the other couple of places mentioned within 5 miles of my house I'll have to visit sometime soon.

2 Indian groceries on Evers
1 Indian grocery on Fredericksburg/Wurzbach (all 3 also have a lot of British items)

International Food Market on Callaghan and Babcock

Middle Eastern market - on Wurzbach behind Pasha (is this Ali Baba?)

Sari-Sari at Wurzbach near Bandera (though they don't have much grocery)

Tim's Oriental Market on Bandera (Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese food + fish and grocery)

Oriental Market on Rittiman - my Thai friends swear by it, say it's better than Tim's (though they're friends of Tim's), but I haven't been.

European stuff - I usually rely on Central Market for that, although the HEB at Boerne Stage Road has lots of German stuff...
