I live on the NE side, in a neighborhood just off Nacogdoches close to where it meets 1604. I just heard a terrible roar and looked out to see a city truck going down my street spraying a fine mist in the air. Does anyone know what this might be? I'm concerned that it was some kind of chemical insect repellant or poison. Has anyone else seen this truck on their street or know what they are spraying?

Was it a street sweeper? Those things are VERY loud. If you recently had large/bulky item or brush pickup, they usually send a street sweeper a week or two after the stuff is picked up. The vehicles use a combination of spraying, brushing, and vacuuming that can stir up a mist as it goes by.

I didn't get to see if it was a street sweeper - I only got a glimpse of a large white truck being followed by a large cloud of mist that seemed to be shooting out from the truck horizontally, as if it were being aimed at the yards. I'm really hoping that it was simply a street sweeper and that was water vapor.

speckled. You said it was shot up in the air, then you say it was horizontally....

I know what it was: It's a city water truck spraying water on the grass to keep it from dying. See it all the time at the parks here.

it was spraying in a sort of large arc, sideways and up, like a large 180 degree cloud. You're probably right TexasNick - it was probably water (I hope). I guess I'll know in a few days if my plantings near the street start to keel over . . .
