The last two times I purchased gas at Valero using my Valero credit card, I had to enter my zip code before I could pump gas. Has anyone else noticed this and is it only for Valero cards or is this done for other cards as well?

I've seen it at a few different stations (HEB is one i remember), but mostly Valero. And that was with my Discover card.

I don't remember the last time I DIDN'T have to enter my zip code. This includes stations across the US only. Several different credit cards (Amex,MC,Visa etc) as well.

Question Exxon

I had to enter my zip recently at Exxon when using my Amex card. I guess most of the gas stations are doing this now. ???

I usually buy gas at Valero, and pay at the pump with a Valero card. And yes, it is only recently that i've had to enter my ZIP.

So, what's the problem with entering your zip code?? Personally, I think everyone should have to show a photo ID when they use their credit card. I betcha it would certainly cut down on all the credit card fraud that's going on out there. If your not a crook, you shouldn't have anything to worry about . How long does it take to punch your zip code in??? It's for the credit card's owner protection.

For me, this happened sometime between Aug 8th and Aug 14th. Up to Aug 8th I never had to enter my zip code and the only place that asked for a zip code was Academy and that was to see where you're coming from. Maybe some credit cards will start implementing this at retail stores. I would imagine this would be a simple but effective theft deterrent.

This is nothing new at Velero at least. If you pay at the pump with a credit card, you have to enter your zip code. Has been this way for at least 6 months.

It used to be that one could enter 99999 if they didn't want to use their own zip...and it would work. Don't know if they've tightened this up though.
