We are considering a move from Seattle and want to know where the best place to live is that has the best schools, safe neighborhoods and best housing? The housing market has gone crazy here in Seattle so we can buy a house for in the 700,000 - 800,000 range. Where would you suggest looking?

I'm guessing any neighborhood full of $700,000-$800,000 homes, in San Antonio, is a damn good one.

Alamo Heights and Terrell Hills is seconded here. Private police forces, the best School District and nicest homes are in those cities and you can easily buy in for 700,000-800,000

Default Bank It!

The median price of houses in San Antonio is soooo much lower than where you live that I would consider banking part of that and looking in the $350-500k tops range. This would still put you in the classiest areas and make a pretty good nest egg. Talk to a realtor about what you want in a house and area. You might be surprised at what you can get!

Happy hunting!

You might not want to go that high in a housing cost just cause prperty taxes in Texas are somewhat high.

Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, OR Olmos Park.... older, established neighborhoods that hold their value; best schools; safe, with good local police forces; close to downtown and amenities; filled with older houses with lots of character. Don't be seduced by the new developments outside the loop -- sure you get more square footage, but less value.

I am looking for the same sort of thing, but I would like to live on a couple of acres outside the city, but with quick access to the air port and the nicer shopping (whole Foods Market) and restaurant areas.
