Are you familiar with San Antonio at all? Downtown is a short 15 minute drive from the airport by taxi or courtesy van. Any hotel in the downtown area is close to the River Walk which has some sections that are great for exercising and walking trails. Avoid the "horse shoe" part of the river and look for hotels on the North reach or the South reach. It will be much less busy and great for walking. Hotels tend to be more expensive downtown, but the Holiday Inn and Drury Inn are fairly reasonable for downtown hotels on the river.

The only area close to the airport with walking trails would be McAllister Park.
I can't think of a hotel within walking distance....but the Embassy Suites by the Airport would be a short drive. There are several other Comfort Inn type hotels along Hwy 281 in that area as well. The exit off hwy 281 is the Nakoma Exit to get to McAllister Park.

Between downtown and the airport is Brackenridge Park, but again....not really any hotels within walking distance. Great walking paths all through the park. La Quinta off 281 and 410 would be a short 10 minute drive South to Hildebrand will get you there.

Near airport area, there's Walker Ranch Park, Voelcker Ranch Park, they have walking trails. Not sure if they are close enough to a certain hotel. Walker Ranch gets interesting when planes come in for a landing, they really come in very low.

Yep, I was going to mention going down Nakoma the other direction where it dead ends at West Ave. The park is small and the trail isn't very long, but it's a nice little park.

Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park - Parks and Recreation

Fairly close to the airport.

Is Voelker open yet? I didn't think it was accessible for walking/biking yet. Salado Creek Greenway is right next to it, though.

Not yet. Last estimate I heard was November. The contractor just this week did the curb cut for the entrance from Blanco.

You'll need a car for most of these suggestions (except downtown's RiverWalk).

...and if you get a room along the river near King William, the area there is much more "park like".

Or you could get a hotel at the northern end (I'm thinking Lexington/St. Mary's area) and walk to the Pearl. Going to work in the morning, I routinely see people jogging along the river right there.

McCallister Park is close to the airport and still has decent trails. They were much better until the local soccer mom voting block got the city to destroy a good chunk of the trails to build more sports fields for their kids.

I would personally opt to stay on the river. The new extension allows you to run 2 miles up and/back.
