My friend had a bassett hound dumped near her house the other day. He's really cute, not purebred, I don't think. Anyway, she's posted him on CL, Man and Beast, and several other sites, but no luck. He is not micro-chipped and between word of mouth and Facebook, she hasn't had any luck finding a new home for him. He's only about a year and a half old, very active, and needs to be fixed.

Since other people have posted this kind of thread, I thought I would give it a shot. I'll see if I can get a pic from her.

Has she contacted Animal Control, ASPCA/Humane Society and local vets to let them know she's found him?

She should really reach out to a rescue organization rather than trying to rehome the animal herself. This one is based in Austin but accepts Bassets from all over Central Tx.

Our neighbor works for SpaySA and she mentioned that the new collar the dog showed up with makes it look as though it WAS a rescue dog, or one that was being fostered somewhere. As I mentioned, I don't think the dog is a purebred--looks like a basset/beagle mix, and she's contacted everyone she can think of to try and find a home for this dog. But thanks for your input.

Mr. Rufus.....we walked him tonight and he did pretty good, but he's strong and needs some training. He's a very sweet boy, though!

That is an adorable basset hound. I'd love to take him in, but my other pets wouldn't like that.

If all else fails, take him to the Humane Society. They'll give him a checkup and find him a nice home.
