We are from Connecticut and plan to move in about 9 months. We were looking exclusively at the Carolinas but after someone mentioned Texas as a great place I started to do a little research. We both love the culture. What good, safe areas outside of San Antonio could I find a house over 1800 sqare feet on a couple acres of land. Nothing fancy. No cookie cutter developements. Just a nice safe area with some open space and decent schools. Thank you in advance!

Fredericksburg may be a nice place with lots of activity for you or anywhere in the lovely Hill Country north of San Antonio. I am from SA but now live in CT. If you are still considering the Carolinas, Asheville seems to be a very desirable smaller city.

Fredricksburg looks good. The others are outof my price range. I want to stay around 150k for a house. Some things I noticed about Texas compared to the Carolinas. For the most part there is less crime in Texas. Also some suburbs are extremely expensive! As much or more than here in Connecticut! The job growth numbers for the most part look great! Things must really be booming! Thanks again!

Default places to live..

Fredericksburg is a bit far of a drive to be considered right outside SA. You might also want to look on the 35 corridor between Austin and SA. Selma,Schertz,Ciblo are all close to SA. New Braunfuls also. Further away is San Marcos, Wimberly Kyle,Buda up towards the Austin area. Dripping Springs is nice outside of Austin. Hill country area. If ya want flat land towards the south of SA is Poteet, Pleaston West of SA is Hondo and Medina,Bandera all smaller towns

Good Luck

Dena

Bulverde would be prime choice. It's not very expensive. Where are you looking?

Also, try Poth or Poteet or even Somerset.

Boerne is really neat as well as Comfort which is a bit further down the road. They both are close to Fiesta Texas which is a Six Flags Park, Sea World and UT San Antonio. We went there a couple of weeks ago to look at some caves. It was great fun. Boerne has quite a bit of charm.

I would stay away from Poteet. Per city data, it has 29 registared sex offenders in that small town. that is way to many!!!!

Also look into Floresville. It is south of San Antonio, but a nice little town. Only about 15-20 minutes from downtown.

Seguin is also nice, but is farther away.
