Maybe some of the older posters can say if a tornado has ever hit S.A.?

I've only seen one funnel cloud here, in '92 or '93; it was dark green and slowly beginning to circulate..attempted to follow it instead of going to classes, but it dissapated before really getting going.

A tornado watch for us usually (from my experience) doesn't mean anything except to expect winds & fast-moving storms.

I would think that it would be nuts to put one of those metal roofs on the house, but some of them look so nice. I also understand the insurance rates are lower...but it's like inviting lightning to strike your house. Scary.

One time I almost got struck in the head by lightning. I lived in Indiana. One more step and it would have got me. Instead it popped right in front of my face, about 5inches. Scared me to death. I will never forget it. I love thunder, though. But afraid of lightning...though it is beautiful. Just demands respect.

Well thunder is the sound of lightning so maybe you should be afraid of that too.

That's how I remember it. I only remember seeing the sky turn that fascinating shade of green once - in 1987 or 88. I was so enthralled that I walked out onto my dorm room balcony to watch the sky. My roommate had to drag me back inside & away from the windows. Fortunately, nothing touched down but I have to admit I was disappointed that I didn't get to see a funnel cloud (and yes...I know how ridiculous that sounds).
