I don't know how many John Prine fans we have on this board but I guess the reaction to this thread should tell me. Not that it matters. Anywho, I just found out that John Prine will not be stopping in SA this time around. He plays Dallas then Austin and then it's on to Nashville. He always stops here when he does a tour and it's usually a sellout or near sellout. Very disappointing. I always look forward to his shows and rarely miss one. I hope the Austin date is a weekend. I may have to drive up there. I hate to miss a show these days. Neither one of us is getting any younger. I guess that's better than not getting any older.

Good, Feb. 27 2010 is a Saturday. That's doable. Hey Mud, you taught me something knew about John Prine. I did a double take when you said that you've been a fan since the 60's. I first heard of JP around 1975 and thought he was fairly new at the time. I just read a bio online and learned that he wrote and recorded his first two songs at the age of 14. That would have been 1960. How were you exposed to John Prine first? I was in a group playing his songs on guitar about 6 month before ever hearing an actual recording. The first time I heard his voice I thought it was terrible. But by the time the album was over I knew I wanted to hear more. I think he is one of the best song writers that has come along in the last 50 years.

Hey Mud,

How were you exposed to John Prine first?

Bob, I was living on the Olympic Peninsula when I first heard JP.

An Underground Radio Station that played Bluegrass, Hillbilly, and some radicals like Prine.

One of Prine's songs was successfully adapted by Nancy Griffith, a Seguin native.
