I'm thinking of parking at the Quarry and taking a cab to the AT&T center and back for a concert, is this a good idea? The Yellow estimate was under $20, do they charge extra to sit in traffic, is the traffic really that bad? We're talking for the Miley Cyrus concert on Thursday. I think I'd rather relax in a car instead of me driving in it, that's really the only reason I want to do it. More quality time with my daughter not having to listen to me complain!

That's not a bad idea at all. Most cabs charge a small amount to sit in traffic, but I'd venture to say that it'll probably cost you a very similar amount to parking at the AT&T Center, without any of the headache.

Criminey. Why not just take VIA? Or alternatively, go down there and park at the Phillips lot across from the ATT center. It will cost you $10 and you will have to walk across East Houston st. Cab will cost a lot more. And I can tell you something else as I am one of the Deputies that works traffic there after these shows, get there early and ensure you can get picked up OFF PROPERTY. The MC concert is going to be a gigantic mess and you will have a very difficult time getting a cab or other car back on the property once the concert is over.

If you would be parking at the Quarry, or anyplace else, for that matter, be sure there are no signs posted that prohibit non-patrons from parking in that lot that subject those vehicles to being towed and impounded at the owner's expense.

At some of those places, there are scouts or security guards that will notify the towing company if they spot someone parking in a lot, then leaving the premises. If there are signs posted that meet local ordinances, you may have little, if any recourse, if you are towed.

Right, having a car service wait for you (until the show is over) would be an efficient idea but that can be pricey.

Car service? No. I was thinking more along the lines of the cab the OP was suggesting. Cabs are everywhere after events at the ATT center, but they arent getting onto the property unless they are going westbound on East Houston and depending on the event, this may not be an option.

Thought of that. I'm eating there and not worried really, the car won't be there over night and it's not like it's a busy weekend night or anything.
I thought of VIA but am not familiar with public transportation here at all, don't know the first thing about where to catch it and how long it takes.
I thought about the hassle of finding the cab after the concert and seeing how this is my first concert at the AT&T center I don't know the first thing about where I would meet up with it off property, I don't know the area.
I've been to a couple of hockey games but didn't pay any attention because my DH was driving.

Theres really nothing to it with VIA during regular events. Find the closest park and ride to you and pay your $5 and you get preferential treatment on the road all the way to the center. I called VIA on your behalf to ask about the concert and they will *not* be providing service that night so, once again, San Antonians are left to fend for themselves when it comes to mass transit to one of the largest events in the city. Griping aside, honestly, if you were to drive, you could park at the Phillips parking lot located directly across the street (E. Houston) from the ATT center. When you leave there, the roads are shut down for what is called "breakout" but all traffic from the Phillips lot has its own lane going directly to Coca Cola which leads you directly to Commerce Street and ultimately to IH10 where you can go whichever direction suits you.

The problem with taking a cab is at the end. Depending on our traffic situation, we sometimes prevent all inbound vehicles from coming onto the property and ultimately try to get everyone to be picked up off property. ATT never made provisions for people to be dropped off and picked up and it changes from event to event.

Thanks for the information, I might consider driving and parking in the Phillips lot. This is just another example of why we need light rail here. In San Diego I would jump on the Trolley and get back to my car from a football game or baseball game (two different arenas) with no problem!
What a logistics nightmare for parents that drop their kid off and think they can come back easily to pick them up. I did see that the AT&T center added a parent lounge area so they don't leave the lot and wait until the concert is over.

We were lucky in San Diego. When we lived in NY/NJ...there was no train to the football stadium or Basketball/hockey arena. Many years like this. Unbelievable in a metro area that towers over SA (and San Diego) in numbers.
