Hey guys! Another weird question from a small-town TN gal:

There are all these neighborhoods with cheap houses for rent that all look alike . they have 'unit #s' like apts ... which we don't have around here, unless they're low-income 'projects' ... like, the ghetto.

Are these just look-alike communities or the ghetto?

Those look like garden apartments. I had a friend who lived in a little complex of those. I think there were ten or fifteen units. They were really cute. There was a patio and a little garden area, and the parking was in front of the unit. It also had some nice old trees and decent landscaping. Sort of like splitting the difference between an apartment and a home. She didn't want stairs, or to live in a big complex, so it worked out very well.

I'm vague on where her place was (out near Randolph somewhere, I think), but it wasn't "the ghetto". Just middle class housing. I'm sure you could find some that are Section 8, or public housing, but certainly not all of them are.

This is sort of a trendy thing right now in real estate. There's a desire to have a bit more of an urban feel in a suburban environment, and there's the desire to have little yard and landscaping upkeep. These garden homes fit the bill. I don't know what their long term appreciation will look like, but they definitely aren't ghetto.

I clicked the map to see where this was and that area is not even close to a ghetto. As has been said, those are garden homes sent up more densely in a suburban surrounding.
