A neighbor gave me a little bag of powder
it's yellow and told me to put 1 teaspoon on the mounds and they take it to their queen and kill it and they go away.

I was surprised to see that that "magic powder" works.
3-5 days later the mound was empty.
But they'll still pop-up somewhere else.

I still don't know what the powder is, but it looks a lot like sulphur. (do a few searches on the internet and see if sulphur works)

The yellow powder is probably nursery grade corn starch...

Me and my kids were putting halloween decorations when out of no where my DD started yelling at the top of her lungs (She's 5)...she was freaking out becasue she had ants on her feet. OMG I swear someone probably thought someone was killing her because she was really freakin out...lol she was so scared to walk in the grass after that.

I have heard that soapy water helps get rid of them IDK how good it works though...I just use bug spray.

The little dark almost black looking ones arrived in the last year or two. They are very high speed and are not shy. They come out to attack food as soon as they see it. They are everywhere. They've vanished somewhat recently. Spray where you can and put out ant baits. They are very persistent and there are loads of them.

I have heard that if you take a shovel full of ants from one mound and put it on top of another mound you will start a little ant war in your yard. Not sure if it kills both mounds or not but I am sure it would make for a good watch since the my bug zapper is on teh fritz. Also, I have heard it is a good practice to use a long handled shovel.

We lived in Hawaii and you enjoyed the tradewinds and the ants that came with your windows being open 24/7. One day I heard my neighbors little girl scream and I rushed over to find one entire dining room wall covered with thousands of ants. That is where I learned of Terro...the ONLY thing that I found that left your home ant free in Hawaii. VERY common knowledge in the islands...not so sure why it is not all that well known here on the mainland.

Source is here if you are interested in buying or just reading up on the stuff.

Amazon.com: Terro 100 1-Ounce Liquid Ant Killer ll: Home Improvement

Read the customer reviews if nothing else...almost every one of the 33 folks have interesting "they just vanished" success with the stuff. I have not seen it for sale in San Antonio, but maybe someone else has and if you order it trust me it is WORTH the little you will spend on shipping.
