If you're cooking it THAT day, there shouldn't be a problem, and if there is, they shouldn't sell it. I learned my lesson, though......never, ever again. It was just awful.

I see marked down stickered meats pretty often, they are usually together in the waist-level coolers.

This summer they had some big packs of expensive sausages for pennies on the dollar! I filled the freezer, it was a great deal

I also look for markdown dairy, esp yogerts and flavored milks. They usually just clear a little shelf by the eggs or butter when they have them

we have - only beans she tolerates well are lima beans, and well you can only eat beans just so often.

Eggs I manage to get a fe in her now and then, but she's not real crazy about them.

Meal replacement drinks all have soy - which she is allergic to. She was on Elecare Elemental formula until about 6 months ago for not growing, when her doctor deemed her finally up to speed growth-wise and said to stop it.

Not at my locations ( Austin Hwy, Broadway/Nacogdoches ) I rarely see any. I think that they rewrap and re-date it... lol
Walmart has a good selection. Always fresh, sometimes discounted, never had any problem with that. But I just hate to go there.

I shop at the HEB at Grissom and Culebra. I've gotten great deals on stuff there. Sue is a product demo woman there and will point you to great deals on anything she knows about (she makes it a point to find them as soon as she gets to work each day). I ended up up with several fully cooked turkeys after T-Day last year--$6 instead of $25. I've also stocked up on double packs of fully cooked smoked sausage for less than $1 apiece. And there was a reset going on one day I was there--I stocked up on various lunchmeats cheap.
For chicken and beef deals, I check HEB Plus on Potranco. I find more chicken than beef. The prices are usually 1/2 off regular, though I have found some with bigger price cuts. I once found 27 oz fully cooked roast chickens for $1 and loaded up my freezers.

I've had an experience like Sapphire. Never again...I don't care if they are giving it away. I'll eat soda crackers all day long if I have too. One time and ya never wants to revisit that place again.

When we were in DFW, Food Lion was caught rewrapping and redating the meats. It was bad news for them. They eventually shut down all their stores in DFW....not necessarily because of the meat, but it did hurt their business.

Maybe Culebra Meat Market is buying up all the sale meats!

I've done that at mine - my most recent deal is an on & off deal on split chickens for .75/lb. People in my side of town {NE towards converse} don't seem to know what to do with them, and so don't buy them.

Turkeys I normally get free after rebate from the beer companies - every year at least one company does free ham and free turkey WYB a $25 or so purchase of groceries. Since the $25 is before coupons I normally do really good.

But beef is the one area I just can't seem to save on - and we love our beef. I really love buffalo, but can't afford it. Must be the native american in me.

I have heard and read over and over that the marked down items on perishables like meat and dairy are usually a good deal if you plan to use them stat.

But I dunno from experience.
