Any recommendations? Bad experiences with people I should not hire?

I'll be out of town for 4 days, and want to leave three my dogs home instead of board them.

I don't need much, as we have a doggie door. We have left them overnight completely on their own before and they are fine, but becuase of the length, I want someone to check on them and give them so attention, fresh food and water daily, ect.

I know there are services that offer this, but I'm very nervous giving a stranger the key to my house when I am not home.

And no, I don't want to ask my neighbors or trouble friends who live across town.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Are you looking for someone to take your pets in their home for the 4 days, or simply stop by your house and spend some time with them?

Would you be open to the doggy daycare kind of places? It's not your usual boarding place at your vets office and the that catches my eye right away is Pawderosa Ranch near the Airport. Dogs are outside with other dogs their size.

Craigslist sometimes has ads for petsitters. We also used sitter city for finding pet sitters and that's worked well.

I was looking for something in my own home. I got a flier on my door awhile ago, but I lost it. I have used the day care kennels before, but it turns out to be about $90 a day, and I remember the home thing being like $30 a day....

Pawderosa's website mentions $30/night including all day play. They also offer a ride to the airport if you need it free of charge.

There is a pet sitter that lives in Silver Oaks. I don't have her contact information, but maybe if you post a "wanted" ad on the mailboxes then she would reply. I think she lives in one of the first three sections. I met her when I was walking my dogs in section two back when we lived in the neighborhood.

dmarie - no worries on any of your stuff going missing if you use Arlene - in fact - you'll likely be surprised that she will go above and beyond what you thought she would do - like noticing if a houseplant is in need of a drink, a newspaper is left out, the mail needs brought in, trash has blown across your yard, etc.

Wise choice - she LOVES animals and treats them all, as if they were her own. Hope you'll come back and share your first hand experience!
