Boeing is weighing their options on this matter (protest?). The 787 is a HUGE project that is supposed to get here early to mid 2010, so there will eventually be lots of new jobs.

The 787 project is INDEED a huge project, and many employees from KC-10 will likely be transitioned to that program.

To say that 200 may lose their jobs is QUITE a bit premature, and speculation at best.

Dynacorp(sp?) had the contract, lost it to Lockheed who then lost it to Boeing. Its the nature of this particular business (in nearly any business) This particular contract had already expired but Boeing kept getting extensions - until this last go round where the govt finally accepted a bid that was not Boeing's. Boeing lawyers think that there were some inconsistencies in the process and considering protest. They are disputing the awarding of the contract to attempt to retain the contract. If that doesn't go thru, some people will follow the program to LA with Northrop Grumman, get laid off, or transfer to other projects within Boeing depending on their skill set and business needs. KC10 people have a black cloud hanging over them right now, its sad but hopefully most of them will retain some level of employment with Boeing. My thoughts and prayers go out to them......

Did Boeing get some kind of stimulus package or deferred taxes from the various taxing agencies based on the number of jobs created when they started up here? If so, are they going to give it back?

Not exactly "speculation" for the 250 workers that are getting laid off.

Boeing plans 250 layoffs, and maybe new jobs

And in other news from over there...
UPDATE 2-US court lifts ban on Boeing work on KC-135 tankers

edit:
layoff notices don't equal actual layoff numbers. The reason that program is shedding headcount is because the contract is over in January. Northrop Grumman won the new contract. Of course the court's decicion which came out later in the day than the 60 day announcement may change things.

Can you clarify? What does this mean exactly? (Sorry I did read the article but just want to make sure I understand)
