Foley's finally opened the Northeast store at Rolling Oaks in 92. Southpark followed in 2000 or 01, then La Cantera in 05. Foley's at NSM actually got a pretty good remodel out of the merger with Macy's. New floors, fitting rooms, tore down alot of interior walls, more upscale merchandise.
Joske's was owned by Allied Department Stores, which failed in the late 80's. Dillard's bought the Joske's chain from Allied in 87 and converted all the stores.
smuboy86, you are correct that Foley's in SA was alway's Foley's, however the NSM location opened in 1982 (expanded in 1986) and the Ingram location opened in 1983. I would not agree that Foley's could not enter into Windsor Park mall either. Mervyn's opened a store there in 1985. Also Southpark Mall opened in 2000.

Also, Allied Stores (Joske's parent company) was purchased by the Campeau Corporation in 1986. Strapped for cash Allied sold Joske's to Dillard's in 1987 and all 27 locations were converted into Dillard's locations (most duplicate locations becoming home stores). Campeau purchased Federated Department Stores (Now Macy's, Inc. & parent of Macy's and Bloomingdale's) in 1988. Heavy in debt from the purchase of the store chains Campeau forces both Federated and Allied filed for bankrupcy protection and were eventually merged under the Federated name in 1990. Campeau Corporation ceases to exist.

Could not tell you if HEB was at NSM and Handy Andy was at CP or vice versa. Way before my time, but some other posts seem to indicate that HEB was at NSM.

I think the HEB was at the Macy's location into the late 70's,and I think Foley's got there in 1981.

Default Northstar MAll

My mom worked @ Joskies in the North Star Mall. That store was the origanial department store in the mall. I believe it opened in the '60's. Then Foleys bought it out.

Didn't there use to be a gas station underneath the parking garage area of Dillards?

Yes, there was a full-service Texaco station there at one time. I'm not absolutely certain this is what happened, but I seem to reacall that the station lost its lease at the North Star Mall location, and subsequently moved their operation to the Texaco station that was at Loop 410 & Harry Wurzbach.

The 410 & Harry Wurzbach location ceased operation as a service station a few years ago, and became Island Liquors. I don't know if the operators of Island Liquors have any ties to the former Texaco station that operated there.
