Would you consider San Antonio dead, dying or alive and well? (Alamo: fit in, apartment)

I hope this doesn't come off offenseive, but Im desparate for answers and looking through the archives isn't answering it!

I've gone to San Antonio 3 times since past October. Loved it everytime. But I arrived home yesterday after staying for over a week, and was starting to have second thoughts about my moving there.

There were a handful of things that initially attracted me there in addition to my field of work it certainly seems the way to go.
At this point, I already have an apartment ready to move into.

But, the weather past few days has been awful. Cold and cloudy except for Sunday. But there are 2 things that really have me wondering. The high Military prescence and the fact the whole town is practically Mexico! I almost feel like I don't even fit in!

It just seems like eventually I'd get so bored with that place by the time my lease is up. There's only so much I can take of Military uniforms and 'Tejano music' at a time! Alamo Heights and downtown seems quite nice, and unique. Sorta Texasy, but alot of Latin influence e.g. hotels with balcony's! But the rest of the area seems kinda 'Blah'. It seems to be the same old thing mile after mile. I thought it was gonna be different than the rest of Texas

I'm trying to stay positive as I been looking to settle into a city since I moved from Florida in 2008, but when it comes to cities I analyze everything!

What's your question? You already had a thread locked that was very similar to this one. What do you want us to do, make the weather nice for you? Close the military installations? I mean, come on. YOU'RE coming to us, not vice versa.

San Antonio is alive and well and growing. Going by the title, that answers your question. By what you said in the body of your post, your focusing on a small part of the city. Anywhere and everywhere in the world has bad weather, some more than others. SA has great weather most of the time. You can't judge by one week what the city has for ayear. As for the inhabitants, there's alot more here than military, hispanics, and college brats. Some people are all 3. Some people are none of those things. SA has a wide variety of people, and is one of the most tolerant cities in the country for different people in all aspects.
If your so focused and so against those things you mention, maybe you won;t fit in to the variety and tolerance of SA. Try San Fransisco or San Diego in California, or Elizabeth New Jersey.

First off, the weather is unusual and is thanks to el nino which has caused us to have a colder and wetter winter.

Second, where exactly have you stayed/frequented that all you've seen is military and all you've heard is tejano? San Antonio is big, there's way more than that, for sure. But to help you out a bit, SA is big on history and heritage. SA's heritage is built around Mexico and Germans. Our culture is built upon the two.
