It's called walking.

Most cities with smaller, localized stores, are in neighborhoods were people actually, gasp, walk! Unheard of in Texas I know! Shock!

That is true, although I haven't been in a Wal-Mart in months. However one of my problems with the HEB Plus is the need to walk through sheets and greeting cards to get to dairy. At Wal-mart and Super target, the food is on one side and I can stick to just what I want to get.

HEB Plus is weird because you are going along getting your produce and then it's kitchen appliances, then you realize you missed the bread section. But no, that's just the bakery bread - where is there regular bread? Then you see gourmet cheese, but that's not all the cheese - so where is the rest of the cheese? Then you are on the back wall thinking you are heading toward butter and all of a sudden you are at toilet paper.

It just takes too long, there are too many opportunities for impulse buys (which is my problem - I know!) and I am NOT looking forward to them taking away my old, familiar HEB! I think I'm going to have to stick to Costco and Sun Harvest, I really think HEB will be losing me as a customer over this (and the fact that I have to cross 281 to get there which adds at least 10 minutes to my travel time.)

I know - nothing about "green" but more about why I don't think I will be shopping there.

not only in texas, i would like to believe only a handful US cities is truly walkable... true urban living for that matter... even in Los Angeles driving is inevitable on everyday living...

Oh yeah, Texas doesn't have the market on that. We used to joke in Indiana about how people got in their cars to drive across the street, but it was an exaggeration. In Texas it's no exaggeration, I've seen people do it!

And that's one of the reasons I left LA with no plans to return, despite familial pressure.

I have an idea for it! But I don't have the ambition or money to start it up so I guess I can share my idea

You know the Incredible Pizza Company on West/Blanco? I think something like that would be great there!

OOh Turtle Mom I 2nd that - we do have a fairly close Chuck E. Cheese but that's pretty much for the littler kids - is Incredible Pizza for older kids? We do need something like that closer.

I was going to say a Petsmart, but one is going up next to the new HEB. I hope something occupies it before the surrounding little stores die off.

No, they aren't saving me any trips to other stores.

I don't buy anything other than milk and tortillas at HEB because everything else is either expensive, not ripe or stale.
