For price and selection, Bolner's is a solid choice. I've sourced kid, whole pigs, and just about anything else I need from them. Their "Bobby Sausages" are a treat. Their prime is "okay".

Second choice would be Central Market. They have all of the basics covered and the prices are not bad.

I have always found Cooper's to be expensive for their quality.

If you mean Exotic Meats USA (I believe that's the name) 410 near Broadway, they are out of business.

+1 for Central Market

Central Market
Bolner's
Dziuk's

Dziuk's is my first choice, but also the farthest (Castroville). My second choice is Bolners. But it also depends on what you are looking for.

Maybe at that ( San Antonio) location. I didn't hear anything about the company being out of business.

Default Good butcher/meat market in San Antonio?

Hi,

I'm looking for a good meat market/butcher in San Antonio. I currently live in NW SA, and the HEBs here have a terrible selection. The De Zavala & I10 HEB seems to be the 'best'. It's very hard to find NY strip without huge fat lines/chunks (we're talking 1cm) running through the middle of the steak in multiple places. I love marbelization, this is something entirely different.

Whole Foods and Central Market near Alamo Heights have been the best so far - however, being 'speciality' stores, you pay for it. I'm looking for alternatives where I can get good cuts of meat, for reasonable prices.

I went to Culbera meat market - they were disgusting. The meat looked quite old, handling of the meat was not safe, and what they called NY Strip looked like hamburger meat.

Google maps turned up some place downtown, which turned out to be a burned down shack, literally. I went to some butcher on Broadway (also Alamo Heights area) and the prices were insane for mediocre meat. Whole Foods was better/cost less. I found some exotic meat place, but I'm generally not looking for hippo toes and camel eyes.

I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have. I'm looking for the usual cuts, NY strip, porterhouse, tenderloin sirloin, t-bone, etc. If they do more than beef, even better! Quail would be amazing...

Thank you kindly,
David

if the "shack" downtown that you are talking about is "bolners" just go back there.

It was named something else (something meat market), and literally did not exist anymore (there was a burned out building where it was supposedly located) Apparently my 'search' technique is rusty, my apologies for not finding this thread. I'll have to check out Bolners, lots of positive feedback here for them.

We tried Bolners for some meat for New Years and it was a great place! I liked that there wasn't a strong "meat" smell when we walked in. I don't like meat markets that stink. The food is very tasty there too. Also, there is a nice market up in Stone Oak called Green Fields that has some reasonably priced meat. Great little market if you are looking for healthy alternatives.

Do any of the places above sell 100% grass fed beef?
If not, do you all know where I might be able to find some?
