Is there any......

Japanese Food Markets?

Favorite Japanese/Sushi Restaurants?

Japanese School/Community center?

If anyone can share with me their knowledge on anything Japanese in San Antonio, I would really appreciate it!

Arigato!

Sadly, we haven't found any sushi to our liking in this city. We travel frequently, so wait until SF, Seattle or Vancouver.

Wow, so helpful....

San Antonio has a rather largish Japan-America Society you might try asking there:
Japan America Society of San Antonio

When I took a couple of Japanease classes in College the professor was fond of:

Fujiya
Fujiya Japanese Garden - San Antonio Japanese Restaurant

Kabuki
Kabuki Japanese Restaurant - Google Maps

There is also the recently redone Japanease Tea Gardens park wise.

There's a Japanese market near a Japanese restaurant on Hilterbrandt near Blanco or San Pedro but I've never been in there.

As far as restaurants - my favorites are:

Koi Kawa - Broadway
Sushihanna on NW Military
Samuri Sushi - on Babcock

There are others around.

I find Zushi Sushi is overrated. Osaka is so-so.

If you go to Austin - there is a greater depth of markets and restaurants. There's a good Austin 360 guide book that lists them.

Thank you so much for the information!! As long as there is one market of some sort than I am a happy cook....lol It will be fun to take road trips to neighboring cities also!

There seems to be a variety of restaurants! The fun part will be trying them all to see which one will become our favorite!

I will contact the Japanese American Society as suggested!

Thank you!

Sorry you didn't enjoy....I was honest. Plenty of mediocre/bad sushi here...

Konbawa,

There is Takata Stamping Plant next to Seaworld. Some Japanese still work there. Another smaller Japanese Stamping Plant (Higuchi) SE of town off I37, not too far from Toyota.

I learned how to order in Japanese at Koi Kawa.

Goro's is a hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant near where I work and went to high school on Vance Jackson/Mosswood near 410. Goro also owns a restaurant called Godai on West Ave and Blanco.

As for Japanese Schools, my high school Japanese teacher spoke of one, but I don't know anything about it. I'm also a JASSA member, and I know that in my high school days (2000-2004) ISA, Incarnate Word, St. Anthony, and St. Mary's Hall had relatively decent Japanese programs. I used to want to organize something like this, but for other reasons lost interest in Japan in general. Still like to practice with speakers though.

Almost forgot! Our Lady of the Lake sponsors some kind of Anime/Game/Arcade festival in August downtown. That's a specific part of Japanese culture, but just thought I'd throw it in.

The Japan America Society of San Antonio also participates in the annual Texas Folklife Festival (next one is 11-13 Jun 2010).
