Well, I'm at a crossroads with whether to continue university for another 2 years or less, or to begin cosmetology school =P
My fiance plays hockey for the Diablos, and me and a good friend Rob are pretty set on moving down to SA (he's originally from Houston). We need a change of scenery, and warm weather would be an awesome contrast from the midwest.

I've spent countless hours scouring the internet for reviews on both the Aveda Institute and the Paul Mitchell School, both in San Antonio. I'm scared off from Aveda because I've read a fair share of negativity about the management and such, which are run by a woman and her two kids... and I don't want to get mixed up in that. It's impossible to find statistics and many opinions on these because they aren't traditional 4-year schools, so I've gleaned what I can from sites like local.yahoo, yelp, insiderpages, etc.

Has anyone here attended any of the cosmetology schools in the area, or know someone who has? And I was curious what you might've heard in general about the local training schools: Milan, Mims, Texas Beauty College, and a few others I can't remember, I've all heard negative things about.

Any help is greatly appreciated =]

I haven't gone to beauty school but i heard Milan is the best. I get my hair done at vogue college and they are pretty good but most of the students don't speak english so i have to tell the instructor what i want.

The customer reviews from sites said that it was ghetto, the students and teachers were rude, and the music was obnoxious. A couple students wrote that they learned nothing and it was a waste of money. Depressing. I checked out their website before and it was pretty unprofessional (I think in general a good site design means a better business). Every review I've read about Milan was negative.

So far Paul Mitchell seems the best.

Thank you all the same.
Anybody else?

My daughter has 2 good friends who are at Paul Mitchell. One JUST started, so can't give a review from her (but she's UBER excited). The other actually started at the PM in Houston and had to move back to San Antonio because the curriculum was much harder in Houston and she was having too hard of a time (failing tests = suspension). She's been much happier here in SA and really likes it. DEFINITELY not ghetto (this is a girl from an extremely wealthy family, and her parents would NOT let her attend there if it was).

Good luck!
