It's a good thing we don't have a big fireworks display downtown for the 4th.....this year our city is hosting 55,000 plus convention visitors from Alcoholics Anonymous from the 1st through the 4th. A lot of downtown streets will be closed for pedestrian traffic though the weekend!

Streets may be closed, but not the riverwalk bars/clubs?

Think of it as a "willpower test"......wanna guess which way the clubs are hoping for?

Must be tough to have an AA convention when everyone else is for the Fourth of July!

Um...yeah..I posted this for information for anyone planning on venturing downtown for the holiday....not to ridicule 55,000 people who fight a victory every day of their lives. It doesn't take a holiday for people to drink. They definitely serve other beverages along the River Walk that don't contain alcohol. The conventioneers can certainly enjoy SA without imbibing.

Well said. Alcoholism and recovery aren't jokes.

I don't see it as ridicule. The truth is, it is a holiday weekend in an area that has quite a few bars. There will be lots of alcohol.

BTW, my nephew, who is attending the convention, thought the location a bit ironic...

That's really not the point of this thread.

I'm sober 6 and a half years and some of my friends from Colorado are headed your way.

Don't you worry about them. They have a sense of humor, they are not alcohol reformers/evanglists/temperence ...ists. They are just sober drunks heading down to party sober till they puke!

They may slip into your bars for a bit to cool off, have a soda... maybe try to find some good Tex Mex.

I made a ZZ Top CD for them and you can bet yer boots I included a few drinkin' songs. Oh, I put some SRV on there too.

Happy 4th of July and hope y'all have a good time.
