Hello everyone!
A few years ago, I moved into the Valley Forge subdivision on the NorthEast side of town. I am very happy there and so are my kiddos. They all attend Woodstone Elementary and my oldest will be going to Wood Middle School next year.
We recently found out that the mother of my step-kids is going to Kuwait in March and that the kids will be coming to live with us. They are in high school. When I moved to Valley Forge, I was told that my kids would go to Madison HS (which is very close), but then someone else told me that it was Roosevelt (waaaay off of Walzem???). I went to the NEISD website and that was confirmed
Crap! 1) that's far and totally unreasonable 2) Madison is a better school and that's where we intended our children to go 3) the kids will be here in less than 2 mos and I HAVE to figure somethin out...

Is there any way around this that any of ya'll know of? Please help!!

not sure if you can do it midstream, but talk to the people at Madison about a school of choice slip. Failing that, enroll them in the Ag program at Madison which is the NEISD ag magnet school....

I would give Roosevelt a chance. Valley Forge was changed to Roosevelt attendance almost 10 years ago. Choice is only available for complete school years, so right now you can request for next year. The district doesn't have to approve the request, especially if the wanted school is overcrowded. Also students on school choice have no bus service provided and lose athletic eligibility for a year.

I agree with smuboy, I would attempt to give Roosevelt a chance particularly if they are just finishing out the remainder of the school year. It may give you the opportunity to research other options if they are still with you next school year, instead of trying to work something out at the drop of a dime.

RGJ, thank you for all the good info and some hope lol.

smuboy & perticusrex, I know you're right..I've just heard so many negative things about Roosevelt and it makes me nervous. I had no idea that we changed to Roosevelt 10 years ago!! These realtors need to do some updating. I also didn't realize that they will lose athletic ability for a whole year...that would make a huge difference with the kids as they all love sports.

I feel better either way now. Thanks for helping

I was actually at Roosevelt by choice, at their magnet program, when the boundry changes to bring in valley forge was proposed. Their were a lot of out right lies that were out there being perpetuated by those parents at the time. All of them hurtful especially after being awarded the blue ribbion of excellence by the federal government. Tours were set up by the Roosevelt prinicpal for valley forge parents to tour the campus, the calmed most of the concerns. Since that time the campus has been completly rebuilt, it's gorgeous btw, and the walzem rd corridor has started it's way back.

What's awesome about Roosevelt is that I am absolutely positive that Rackspace will hire Roosevelt students for internships since they will be so close! If your kiddo is interested in computers, this will be a wonderful opportunity when it happens!
