it's called preventive medicine.....anyone that is tempted to call in when they are not sick is now put on notice. Smart boss...as far as reducing absenteeism,

It does suck paying minimum wage and not having bennies, but most doc in the boxes will offer a discounted rate for people that don't have insurance. That still sucks....but I'm sure this person would rather do that than having to cover extra shifts for employees playing possum.

And no...this isn't a Texas thing. It depends on the workplace....but it is definitely within their rights to request it.

Do Texas labor laws require that you need a dr's note to miss work? This is work, not school....
That is rediculous, I would expect it from a School but not from a place of employment where grown ADULTS work. This is why they call them personal days, or vacation days. You shouldn't need approval to miss work when you're entitled to it. I could see if you are being abusive but every once in a while?

My previous employer switched from allotting separate "vacation days" and "sick days" to just plain "paid time off", or "PTO", as it was more commonly known. That way, the employee has less incentive to play "hookey", or risk leaving unused sick days on the table. If you wanted a day off to take care of personal business, or maybe just weren't feeling well, it really didn't matter, as far as your PTO account was concerned.

It's so confusing at times! We have vacation days and we have SEP days (stands for Sick, Emergency, Personal).

I agree that the requirement is unreasonable. But it is legal. You may wish to consult with the state of Texas. They have a website at: Equal Opportunity is the Law
Or, you may wish to consult with an employment attorney. Is is doubtful that you will find a document that says that the practice is legal or illegal.

No offense, but you've probably never owned a company where people calling in "sick" affects your bottom line and ability to run a profitable business. If you're TRULY sick, a doctor's note shouldn't be an issue. If you want a personal day, schedule it off in advance.

Being a "fast food joint", the manager has a responsibility to his customers and other employees.
More than a day out being sick signals a possible serious condition that a manager can't risk spreading to others.

I dont think i'd pay for that service although making one takes a little technique and patience. I've done several for my crazy brother and one or 2 for myself on occasion...They usually never call unless you show up noticably hung over
