nobody should feel entitled to have their language from their origin country spoken to them. just as I don't expect ppl in foreign countries to speak english.

The discrimination isn't as "in your face" as it used to be, but there are times that I do feel it ever so subtley. Fortunately, I've grown thick-skinned over the years and don't let it get to me. When people are determined to be ignorant, nothing I say or do is going to change that.

There's noway that discrimination here can be compared to other places in the Midwest and the South.

I've also seen people switch to perfect English after realizing no one here speaks Spanish.

This. My husband works for a weekly hotel chain and he is constantly yelled at for not speaking Spanish. He has a sign for the basic terminology, but doesn't know any more than that. He has been screamed at, had things thrown at him, accused of being racist - because he doesn't speak Spanish.

And just about every time when his customers realize he can't speak it and can't leave the office to hunt down someone who can, they switch to perfect English.

My daughter encountered this while working at Six Flags as well. I don't understand how someone is considered racist and threatened because they don't speak Spanish. Especially when the one doing the ranting can also speak English.
