I'm in a quandary. I visited my dentist yesterday in excruciating pain from what I believe is a deep abscess under a crowned molar (severe pain in the tooth itself, aswell as under my jaw). Usually, I have a lot of faith in him (Dr Rappanotti on Huebner) but after X-raying my tooth, he declared that he was clueless as to what was causing my pain and subsequently gave me the number of 2 different specialists (one specialising in root canals, the other in gums) and told me to call them both for an app.
Trouble is, I see Rappanotti because he accepts payments, and I know that these specialists do not, which makes it financially impossible for me to see them and pay in full.

So, I'm currently in alot of pain (the Vicodin he prescribed aren't working) and on Ery-tab antibiotics and completely lost as to what to do.
If I was to aquire dental insurance, would they accept me even though I have current oral health problems?
And more importantly, PLEASE can someone recommend a relatively cheap but GOOD dental health insurance plan to cover both hubby and me?
We can probably spare $100 per month, if that helps.
I'm totally ignorant to how health/dental insurance works over here, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Health Insurance - Affordable Health Insurance Quotes, Individual Health Insurance
Gives you quotes on health, dental, etc.; worth a try! The companies I've seen on there have been legit companies but just double check to make sure.
If all else fails, can you do Care Credit? It's a type of charge account you can use at participating doctors, dentists, etc. to pay for services. I did charge my invisalign braces with Care Credit and did the 24 months no interest deal they had at the time. Sometimes they do offer promotions/discounts on interest rates. Good luck!

I know medical doctors' billing offices will negotiate prices with you if you are uninsured......try asking a dental practice if they will give you the insured rates. Doesn't hurt to try and you may be pleasantly surprised. Dentists here are plentiful and they have to be competitive.

Good luck. Dental pain is some of the worst kind.

Default Hello

hello Iwas also a patient there he made payment arrangements then one of the ladies left and then he said he lost my checks then I made several calls to pay the checks but he kept making excuses why so I finally went and filed a report and kept my records but not only did he do the work but he didn't even remove the nerve he left part of the nerve and I feel so much pain and on top of that he made horse teeth for my partials not human teeth but monster teeth it is horrible so I can understand how you feel.

I know this thread is a little old. I didn't realize it until annettenap brought it back up today.

Just wanted to let those seeking dental assistance know that the The University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School says you may have to wait UP TO A YEAR to receive services. Just wanted to point this out to anyone who finds this thread online.

I'm registered with them and my Dad is as well. When I called them over a month ago to see If I could change something on my application they said no and when I asked about a time frame they said that I would probably be waiting awhile to hear back from one of their dental students.

When you receive services, you do pay a portion of the charges, from what I hear, but at least it's not full price.

My mother in law is receiving cancer treatment thru University System and she was assigned a case worker/social worker that did the paperwork for her to receive dental treatment as well. She has also been waiting a year on the list and she finally has an appointment next week.
