There's a decent KOA here. And there are plenty of campgrounds within a short drive. I think my favs are McKinney (Austin) and Goose Island (Coast).

Where's Camper1?!?

Here I am!

The State parks are very dog friendly just make sure and pick up after them ( it's the law now ). Please be courteous and remember that with kids and dogs, other people don't love them like you do.

Default Go to Junction!

I suggest you go to South Llano River State Park in Junction, TX. It's about an hour and a half west of SA, and it's beautiful - good hiking for doggie/owner exercise, and a refreshing spring-fed swimmin' hole for cooling off after being on the trail. Check it out - it's awesome.

Some of the trails closer to the river are closed during a good period of the year because there is a protected turkey roost. Check out the TPWD website before you plan a trip out there. It is very beautiful and rugged and it's a great place to watch birds if you are into that. There are some very good bird blinds.
