Baby having latch issues ------switch to formula.

You get the idea. Nursing a baby is like learning to to dance with a partner. It takes a lot of practice, patience and fine tuning to get it right.
I understand now. Thanks for explaining!

Dairy causes reflux in many children and should help ease the symptoms.
Thanks...it's not that I am anti-meds, a hippie against all forward moving progress or a masocist by any means. I am more of the school of thought that medicine should be used in conjunction with lifestyle changes, not in lieu of. I'm also a bit confused and uncomfortable as to how my pediatrician made his diagnosis, we didn't have a Q&A where he came to that conclusion he just sort of told me one day and didn't recommend a specialist or anything else. In fact, I've done some research on my own that includes not laying her down right after feedings, laying her at a slight incline, etc. that could help ease with some of the discomfort, but not cure and not to be used in lieu of the medicine. As for the diet changes I am lactose intolerant and I make sure to eat only healthy foods to ensure she gets the best i.e. salmon, blueberries lean meat, etc. I've also read that many infants tend to outgrow it, which is what I am hoping for. Thanks again.

Yes thank you- I wasn't quite sure how to reply it's my first and I never realized how defensive people get about certain topics (breastfeeding is up on the list right next to pain medication during delivery which I opted to forego and most people thought I was certifiably insane)...Very eloquently put...thanks again

I think we are on the same wave length as far as mediciation and physicians. Call Dr. Davis, you'd like her, she's helped me with my reflux kids. 2 of mine outgrew it, 1 is still on meds as she needs them, not full time.
You might try sleeping her on an incline like a bouncy seat and see if that helps. Some babies really benefit from tummy sleeping. Totally controversial, but it is an option. This is a very helpful site

Constipation while breastfeeding is actually extremely common, although it isn't true constipation. Breast milk has very little residual and as long as you have one dirty diaper a week it is ok especially if the stool is still soft. As for pro-breast feeding pediatricians, I haven't heard of one who isn't.

My daughter has been having major constipation problems (which shouldn't be happening since she is breastfed only) I've tried all home remedies and then some I hate seeing her in pain please help!! She was also diagnosed with acid reflux or GERD and is on meds (she is only 2 months) however, I've read that the side effects and life long effects for this particular condition have not been studied. My current pediatrician was referred by a coworker I think in his prime he was an awesome doctor- Raymond Ruenes at Medical Center Pediatrics, but I think he is tired and a bit set in his ways not willing to consider an alternative to his current philosophy/treatments. Someone in the Stone Oak area would be preferable however if it is elsewhere I'm willing to make the drive as long as he/she is worth it. Please excuse the wordy post but I'm desperate..... with the sleepless nights and sore nipples (sorry TMI) it's all I can do to keep some semblence of sanity! Please Help!!
Hi Smelly!

As a breastfeeding mom and still doing it at 11 months the best answers I found was from La Leche League and The Womans Place at Methodist Health Care System. I can dm you the links if you wish. I had a problem breastfeeding at 6 months and they really helped me out.

My current pediatrician is Anne Logan and Sherrilynn Woods out in Boerne and they have been really well with my little one.

Feel free to contact me.

Yours sincerely
Mrs X

are there many pediatricians these days who are anti-breastfeeding?
Really more that they don't know much about breastfeeding. And the hospitals here are not big on promoting it like the hospitals in the northern states I used to live in.

Are you sure your babe is actually constipated? BFed babies can go days without a bm. Unless they have other signs such as a distended belly, hard stool they are probably not actually constipated.

As for not treating reflux, definitely try holding baby upright after feeding, smaller more frequent nursing, eliminating dairy and caffeine if you consume it. If that doesn't help enough, please consider meds. Reflux can be very painful and damaging. I've had two reflux kids, one I was able to control with diet, the other needed meds.
