Hey laura, does the house have a crawlspace or pier and beam foundation? Or is it a slab?

I did not have food left out, my house was clean, and I do not smell any odor from anything that may have died in the attic or crawl space (pier and beam).

Ohhh I feel for you! That would absolutely freak me out. I am sure an exterminator can help you get whatever it is....out. Good luck!

I forgot to read about the foundation. If it's a pier and beam with crawl space, and not to spook you out or anything, but chances are there is something that has died under the house...Probably a possum or a cat....or maybe FCF

This happened to me once, in Los Angeles. They were mostly on the window. I never figured out why, and it never happened again.

Thanks guys. I have scheduled an exterminator to come spray (good idea regardless) today. Last night there were about five still hanging around. The exterminator will go into the attic and spray the crawlspace so maybe we can investigate down under while he's there.
ICK.

Also, I removed the compost pile yesterday just in case.

That is really strange reading your thread - I saw a huge fly in my garage yesterday after taking the trash bin out to the driveway. I've never EVER seen one that big!!!! At first, I thought it was a bumblebee that whizzed past my head, but after rendering it flightless, I noticed the wings were shaped more like that of a fly's. The other thing that threw me was the yellowish coloring on part of the underside of the insect. When it was upside-down (after swatting it 20+ times with the mail - and yes, I had a hard time winning the fight - it just wouldn't die ) I saw that it's mouth was chomping away. It looks like it would hurt badly if it would have been chomping on me!

Anyway, I wonder if it came from the trash bin? Laura, do you by chance keep your trash bin in your garage? I looked in my garage today after work, and I thankfully didn't see anymore of the critters. I have to admit - if I saw a hundred of these guys flying around, I'd be (bee?) a little creeped out.

Just wanted to add that this fly from head to toe... err... From it's head to it's "backside" it was approximately 1" long! it was also very wide (like a bumblebee) and I think hairy... (or was that me in the mirror?)
