I do prefer name brands over some of their items.....and then you feel like a complete idiot paying 1 or 2 DOLLARS more for the brand name.....so I would grudgingly put back the name brand and buy their brand. I'm just not playing their game much anymore. It's just making them more profit and further drying up the competition. People think they have us by the shorts now, wait till all these other little players are gone.....and we're left with WM and HEB only. Super Target, while I love shopping there (vs. HEB)--I just can't see them holding out here.....because people are so enamored with HEB.

There is a real estate term and it is on the tip of my tongue right now that pertains to this. The Express News recently had an article on this. Basically said when HEB builds a new store if they move out another grocery store cannot move into that building hence why they are vacant and collecting dust. Same with Academys and all those other vacant buildings. And we are talking for decades some times. I am sure someone will chime in with what this process is called. Ughhhh...this is going to bother me the rest of the day now.

I'm glad someone else mentioned the rampant HEB's and NOTHING else (except Wal-Mart...but NO way do I visit that hell hole!). How in the world this metro area that has well over 1 million people have only ONE chain of grocery stores to pick from just blows me away. Friends from back home (Atlanta 'burbs) have no less than 5 choices and that is AFTER many more have closed down. And what is deal with them being SO DAMN busy?!? I have yet to figure out why so many places close so early when the fools around here seem to NEVER sleep! OK...got that off my chest.

Well, I've never been there, not very close. I'd sure go there occasionally if they have the special fresh breads like Central Market does!

That's true. It's only beat by CM for food things. Their takeout is boring but so is CM's. Nothing compares to Whole Foods on Lamar in Austin!

The takeout at WF here is damn awful.

This is absolutely, 100% true. Twice today, when I chose a name brand, I looked at the price and then glanced at the HEB brand and its price. Holy schnikes! Seriously??

I have found that the hill country fare's quality is just lacking big time on most items. I just grab brand names unless it is toiletries. I mean toilet paper is toilet paper. But peanut butter is another story. Gotta get the brand name.
