We move to a new home not long time ago (Alamo Ranch.) Also we are new at Texas, so ....I don't have much information what is better to plant here.

-Can you please advise me where is best price to buy plants, trees, shrubs, roses?
Wish to fill my new garden with lot of beautiful flowers and trees but don't want to spend too much money.

-what is local perennial plants which are blooming most the year here?

- what is most fast growing trees to get shade from west, south?

All of your questions can be answered at Rainbow Gardens on Bandera Road. Also check just up the street from there at the Garden Center ( I think that's the name of it.) Rainbow Gardens is a really nice place to shop and also to learn all things San Antonio, as far as gardening anyway.

Here's a local (regional?) call-in show about gardening in Texas. Pretty easy listen and informative.

There are a lot of free resources on the web, the best of which are associated with Texas A&M (tamu)

Texas Tree Selector

Texas Superstar®

Aggie Horticulture

Central Texas Gardening

In addition, your local nurseries are good resources. Central Texas is a challenging area for gardeners and the local stores know the area. Save money by buying smaller plants and spacing them out appropriately. Things grow fast around here. Also only buy healthy plants.

For sure the superstars. Don't buy if it does not do well in heat. There are a lot of drought tolerant stuff that is good.
