Does anyone know why they cleared the trees at Gold Canyon and 1604 right in front of Community Bible Church?

I heard someone said because they are getting ready for the 281 & 1604 interchange. That would be nice as long it happens sometime this decade.

That explanation makes sense. Construction on that interchange is supposed to start this year.

Actually, it's a big mystery. The church has been trying to buy that land forever, but they were asking a CRAZY price for it. The owners seem to think they're going to get a buyer for it. We THINK they just cleared it to show the land and hopefully attract buyers, but they didn't get any permits for it. With the drainage and recharge areas, the city is looking to nail them to the wall...to the tune of about $14K a tree!!

Long story short, nobody really knows what their plans are, but it doesn't seem like they really HAVE a plan. They just decided to clear it one day without any permits.

Looks like it's going to be a very expensive mistake.

I thought they were technically all ready started, IIRC it was a few weeks ago. I havent seen any work done yet though. Has anyone seen any projections of what they are going to do, and how long it is supposed to take?

If it's an owner with deep pockets, I could see a heavy fine leading to a protracted legal battle, ending a few year from now when the Texas Supreme Court invalidates the city's tree ordinance.

This is too much of an easy target. Maybe that was the plan all along?

That's possible too. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. I know there was someone from the city there the other day measuring all the downed trees with calipers, because the fine is actually figured at a dollar amount per inch (diameter) that they cut down. The flyover may very well invalidate that area as a good place for a business that depends on drive-by traffic, so it'll be interesting to see if anyone buys it.

Developers are in the process of denuding the property on Babcock just NW of UTSA Blvd. How do you check on permits and our tree ordinance?

If it's in the city, call the City Arborist's office.
