hi, I'm looking to move to San Antonio in about 6 months and I need an apartment that allows me to keep my two small dogs. I'm on fixed income so it needs to be under $550 month. Thanks in advance for any help.

$550? That's low. And accepts pets? . Maybe a studio in a "not so great area" ..if that. Good luck.
Rent isn't cheap here anymore.

Look into Lincoln Village on Jackson Keller and 410. It's a dump but I rented for $435 (with a student discount). This was like 2015, but I doubt if the rent has gone up more than $100. Consider a roommate. Even up here in Austin I've seen people find a roommate for $550.

Maybe Trails of Elm Creek on Vance Jackson.

Rents here used to be really affordable (I still had a 2 bedroom 1 bath in a nice area for 750 in 2010) but they've got up like mad. Now you can't get even a one bedroom in a nice area for less than 800. 2 bedrooms are more like 1100 - 1300. It's absolutely insane even for run down old places with no amenities and really old appliances. They have got some nerve.

Check police reports (ask for a survey from the local substation) to show you just what kind of crime that complex has seen before you commit to it, whichever one you're looking for.

Also Holly over at the Apartment Locator on West and Blanco (they have a bright pink sign) is really super nice and will help you find a place and she has no fee. Straight across from the Marshalls on the side with the car wash and gas station.

also pet fees and deposits are really high too and most charge pet rent of 10 or 15 bucks per animal.

Here's a list of apartments under 600. The ones in your range are pretty old or not in a good area but your milage may vary.

I think you will have to pay pet deposit plus pet rent.
You price range might put you in an unsafe area, and a run down apartment with poor maintenance.

I strongly believe this was a drive by poster. They haven’t responded since their original post.

I might have to consider low income apartments or getting a roommate as suggested.

Because its warmer there than where I live now and the cost of living is reasonable compared to other warmer climates and I've heard good things about SA.
