My wife's sister currently goes there. The 8 month "nursing" program is going to cost her $16,000. I don't know anything about their academics, however, $16k does seem like a lot for an 8 month certificate. IMO, make the sacrifice and go to a local community college for an associate's degree. At least, that way you are assured transfer credits in the event you decide to continue on to a 4 year college.

Is it the LVN program? That is the program that I was interested in since they have a night program with clinicals on Saturday. They are accredited now.

Check the accredidation closely - ask some of the hospitals, etc. if that is "real" accredidation, or one that they "create" to say they are. Otherwise, it could be like a situation I ran into years ago, where a local company was selling a "laboratory tested" product. It WAS laboratory tested - but the "rest of the story" is that the lab FAILED the equipment, saying it did NOT do what it claimed! Just enough truth to be "true"......

No kidding, I (well, my company) paid less than that for my graduate degree! And it sure as heck took me longer than eight months to complete!

And I may have been confusing Career Point with ITT Tech, but honestly I don't think there is much difference between the two...

Check with the Texas Board of Nursing on the accredidation staus. The Board of Nursing has accredidation with different levels and stipulations. Also check that the credits are transferrable if you decide to go on for a BSN. $16,000 seems to be a little high and 8 months to be an LVN is scary.

Check out the Baptist Health System school. Not sure if they still do this, but I had a friend who went there in 1996 for her radiologic tech program, and her tuition was waived if she agreed to work for Baptist for 5 years upon graduation. They probably don't offer night courses, in fact, I'm almost positive they don't, but it may be worth looking in to.

Yeah I might want to be seen by a nurse with just a bit more than 8 months of training...

LVNs do the pre visit stuff: check blood pressure, temperature. The RNs are the guys or gals that do the meaty, sometimes life or death stuff.

It looks like Baptist's program is one year for LVN's.

I want an LVN doing an evaluation to know that the information or examination results are a problem that needs attention enough to call the RN or MD. An LVN may do priliminary information gathering, but what to do with that information is just as important. 8 months of book learning doesn't give an LVN enough time to learn the meanings of the information gathered.
