Now called the "Age" Refinery just south of SE Military Dr. on S. Presa (181 south). The old Howell Refinery was ground zero of a tanker explosion today. We heard the explosion and a few minutes later saw a black plume from about 2 miles away. This occurred shortly before noon today on the city's South East side!! Here's KSAT 12's report.

That place used to be Sigmor Shamrock' s refinery originally, I think, but not sure. It's older than dirt!

I was able to see the smoke plume all the way from Bulverde just about 30 minutes ago! You just see a massive black cloud coming form a single point on the ground far away.

KSAT says Brooks City-Base is being evacuated.

They're on live now. Here's a link to the live feed (http://www.ksat.com/video/22722763/index.html - broken link) for those at work or away from SA.

Fire chief just said there's naphtha and jet fuel, among other things, in the tanks at that facility. Naphtha's a carcinogen.

Yeah, I was in the middle of moderating a webinar and my speaker's office is in that immediate area. He got knocked off the webinar, then called on his cell to tell us that they'd lost power and were being evacuated. My poor participants didn't know what the heck to think. And now we have to reschedule his program.

I understand one person has died?
