We will be moving to San Antonio in August to work at the VA hospital. How's the area around the hospital? We want a short commute if possible just so we can get to the hospital & home quickly. We would like to rent because we may not be there more than 5 yrs & it gives us a chance to figure out what area we would would like to buy property if we get placed there permanently. Love quiet & we have no children. Any advice you can offer would be welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Did you already worked in all those places ( Louisville, Tampa, Philadelphia ) or you are still not sure where you want to be?

Anywhere in north central or northwest SA would be good. The medical center is a safe area with lots of housing near by. There is probably houses around there for rent and lots of apartments too.

Define "short," as in SA anything less than a half hour can be considered reasonable.

If you mean 5-10 minutes, than txmusicgal pretty much nailed it...but I would add that you're better off on the northern side of the Medical Center area than you are on the southern side.

@Elaina: The VA is moving me again. When I made my posts about the other three locations they kept giving me different locations that I would be stationed but thank you for being concerned.

Thank you Txmusicgal & majormadmax. We are probably going to try to come out in August to look or as soon as the final paperwork is approved.
