I'm on day #4 here from my move from Rockford IL. I like it more much more than I anticipated.

Things I've noticed...
I havn't gone to bed by the sound of gunshots.
When people ask how you're doing, the sincerely wait for you to tell them.
A car GPS is a very good thing to have; however, they can be ineffeciant (like cut over to left lane and merge on to 410 to take the next exit off). GPS units don't tell you to watch for red lights and traffic.
I'm not use to triple left turn lanes with the most inner lane an actual turnaround.
I havn't seen any scorpions. I have seen about 6 or so water snakes. On a side note... Has anyone here fished the golfcourse pond of Longhorn? The pond is next door to my apartment (villas of Vista del Norte). The pond seems very shallow.
Once I figure outhow to obtain a texas drivers licence, I plan to get a fishing licence and fish some public areas.

Just a few questions...

Concerning the sounds of gunshots, really? There are few areas in SA that are that bad, and where you live (south of 410 and west of 281) doesn't seem like it'd be one of them). But it does appear your complex has its problems!

As for GPS units, their problem is that the maps are out of date before they are even distributed, especially in places like SA where road construction is constant thing. Plus, sometimes the navigation systems don't know or figure out the best route; I've ignored what "Nigel" (the British voice on my Garmin) tells me to do as I know better; but it's still better than trying to navigate via maps and/or directions, especially in places that you're not familiar with!

Concerning fishing in the pond, first you have to check if you can as while the Silver Horn Golf Course is open to the public, it is also private property and you'd better have permission to be on it! Also, as you noted, you will need a fishing license; you can get 'em at Walmart.

Lastly, it's funny that you mentioned scorpions, as I've not really noticed them (but I've seen a few wild tarantulas! ). But at the gun show this morning my son pointed out a dead one on the floor. I think it's the first one I've seen here...

Anyhow, this is southcentral Texas so it's all a part of living here, like dealing with the brutal heat! But if you're like me, you'll learn to love it!

Cheers! M2

He just moved here. I'm thinking that he fell asleep to the sound of gunshots in his previous city, which may be the reason he's so happy to NOT fall asleep to the sound of gunshots here.

There's an unwritten San Antonio rule that by DAY 5 you have to get an enchilada plate somewhere! Don't forget to! Your day #5 will be much better if you do. And welcome to San Antonio (not "SAY TOWN" lol)...

I thought day 5 was siesta day. All these years I have had it wrong?

If you have a valid drivers license from another state you will only have to take the vision and written test to get a TX drivers license. You must bring proof of auto liability insurance. Welcome to our lovely city.
