Loss of mural spurs call for apology (http://www.mysanantonio.com/entertainment/visual_arts/disbelief_follows_destruction_of_school_mural_9582 4899.html - broken link)

I was actually kinda sad when I read about this. I remember when it was completed and just thinking how amazing it would be to see something like that everday at school. Valdez went on to become a well known artist and seemed to handle the destruction of the mural gracefully. While sad, I hope that it opens the door for another up and coming artist to create something even more amazing, this time representing culture unity and community. (Granted the original mural was sponsored by a tabasco sauce company) It was a beautiful piece though.

I've seen this mural, and i really enjoyed it. it shows pride in our san antonio community and soccer lovers everywhere. I'm sad to see it go.

like Valdez said "murals come and go" but it would be awesome to see him put up another mural after the rennovations are finished.

This article at KSAT.com makes it sound like it was an honest mistake.

She said crews canvassed the campus, looking for Valdez's signature which is associated with his other murals inside the school. His signature was not found and the decision was made to paint over the mural.

Was a beautiful mural from what I can see in the photo. I do not agree that the principal should be fired or resign as some people are calling for.
I think it would be great if the school would allow the individual to do another painting.

Seriously? People should be more upset about the dropout rate at that school.

It's about principle, sakssa to extend a courtesy to the artist that their were plans to paint the building is all.
