Hello

Thinking of relocating from Ohio to California for a job offer in Loma Linda. I've done a little research. From what I can tell Loma Linda is very dry & desert like. I'd rather live close to the beach. I'm 22 & single. I don't have any friends or family there. Will probably be staying alone... so safety is very important. I don't know much about California so I welcome all advice. Sounds like Rancho Cucamonga is nice & safe. Also read a lot about Corona. But what about a beach town... are there any within driving distance to LL? Don't want to commute more than 30-45 min. Would Laguna Beach be an easy commute? Newport Beach? Again, I know very little about Cali so I might be way off. Plz point me in the right direction! I don't mind living somewhere off the coast & commuting to the beach & Loma Linda... so maybe somewhere in the middle?? Top priority is safety... would like a city with things to do (shopping, eating, entertainment).

Thanks!

Cali's in Colombia. Living at the beach is expensive, especially Laguna. If you want to live somewhere in OC while working in Loma Linda, you'll have to face the most congested freeway in the country, State Route 91.

Check Google maps for distance and travel time estimates from the various beach towns to Loma Linda. That should cure you of wanting to live at the beach while working way in the hell out here.

Loma Linda, while not the desert, is very hot in the Summer and very hot and windy in the Fall. So is Rancho Cucamonga, Corona, and every other city in this vast collection of inland valleys.

Did you ever consider actually living in Loma Linda or Grand Terrace? Nice areas, both of them. Here's a valuable tip: In Southern California, the key to sanity and a happy state of mind is living as close to your work as possible.

I don't know what kind of salary you're going to be getting, but any beach community will be expensive. The Inland Empire is hot in the summer and traffic is unbearable on our freeways. If I were you, I'd work close to home and do the beach on the weekend. Look at Rancho Cucamonga, Alta Loma, Redlands, Chino Hills, Upland, Corona, and even some areas of Riverside are nice.

Hey if you want the beach & can afford it, live at the beach & be prepared to commute. It's not up to anyone to tell you you can't live at the beach. R.C. has sweltering summers. Go ahead to the beach & live & be happy!

Thanks Blue. But the more I think about it, living on the beach is probably unrealistic. Thanks for the honest feedback Fontucky, Ashley, & Hazel. Living in a new city will be hard enough without spending 4 hours driving everyday. I will start around $43,000. I've been browsing CL & there's no way I could afford to live on the beach with that salary. So I'm looking in LL & surrounding cities. Seems like RC has a lot of newer communities as well as newer shopping areas, restaurants, etc.

Please take my advice, and move to a normal part of the country, (like Ohio!), and not this place. Whatever in CA that is nice is unaffordable, everything else is dreadful. Especially since you are from Ohio, you will be very surprised at people's rudeness in the 909, and that is the tip of the iceberg. If you insist on living anywhere in CA, may I suggest the San Diego area. I'm not from CA, but Las Vegas.

Live in Loma Linda, it's a very nice area or even Highland. The beach is very easy to get to as cost of living by it will scare you.
