I was considering buying a condo in Lake Elsinore and noticed that a lot of condos are located close by the lake... I've heard people call it "lake smellsinore" on this board, and that the area isn't nice/crime ridden... Is it true? The condos seem to be all located around the lake shore.
And if the lake does smell--why, is it just natural algae or something chemical?

The smell occurs during the occasional fish die-offs. They die from lack of oxygen. The odor is beyond horrible, but not all that common.

I have family living right on the lake in Lakeland Village. They couldn't be happier.

Toxic waste from meth production.

Those days are, for the most part, history. The meth production has moved on.

Is it really that bad? :X Is it a meth area like people say? I have no prob with natural smell, from fish or algae, etc, having growing up near water and seeing lots of dead fish... as soon as it's not chemical stuff dumped into the lake. I'm an immigrant too (legal, lol) so not looking for exactly an uptight perfect area... just not the ghetto where you look over your shoulder all the time and can't take a walk.

Elsinore will always be a temporary stop for anyone. Rent, do not buy.
You will commute 6 hours a day. Return and go to the local pawn shops to buy your TV back your neighbors hawked.

Why? I'd never rent again and pay someone else's morgage, enough of that.
So, if Elsinore is so bad... is Temecula better? I bet not everyone commutes 6 hours a day from these places. Plus, I hope to work part time and hopefully part from home (no need to pay mortgage).
I'm considering north SD county versus Temecula Valley. I could buy low end in OC...but it'd be Santa Ana, and not the best area--not only tv, entire person could go missing there probably...

Xani, in case you haven't figured it out yet, ferretkona tends to lean in the direction of hyperbole.

That and he's 400 miles from the place you're inquiring about.

Yeah commute from Columbia, CA would make Elsinore commute seem like nothing I bet.
I appreciate any honest advice though.
