I wonder what this place will look like in 10 years? The growth is going at a really fast rate. AZ guy, I would take Temecula over Murrieta. Temecula has more tree's and more people from S.D. and OC. Murrieta....well, lets just say that some of the people are your desert rats. You know....the tattoo's large trucks...etc....However you might like that crowd who knows?

Default Temecula/Murrieta

If you don't mind all of the road rage then go for it. I'm 28, male, got five kids, work as an engineer. (i say that so you know who this message is coming from).

In a matter of only a few months in Temecula I was:

1) Almost hit four times on foot when crossing an intersection by the same type of woman (high on Starbucks and cell phone minutes) in an Escalade with 24's.

2) Had three near head on collisions because another driver didn't have enough patience to stop for a red light.

3) Had two near side collisions because another driver didn't have enough patience to stop for a red light.

4) Was ran into on-coming traffic from two guys racing their hondas on a side road in Temecula.

5) Witnessed multiple 'pull-over and fight' scenes on the side of the road.

6) Wife and 1 month old were hit by racer punks in SUVs on the 15 and it caused her Land Rover SUV to flip a few times.

7) And you gotta love the 215 when it branches off the 15 going north into two lanes leading to thousands upon thousands of homes and multiple towns. Gridlock.

So, Yeah! And we pay over inflated home prices for that crap? I lived in Temecula for 15 years. It started to suck right about when they put the mall in. If you don't mind a nasty commute north or south and you don't mind driving 20 minutes to the store when it should only take 5, then Temecula is the place for you.

But the commute all depends on your profession and how much you want to make. I made 20k more a year for getting the same type of job in San Diego than I did in Temecula. That's why everyone commutes.

Murrieta is about the same. I'd move to Menifee if I where you. It still has that small town feel. Less people. Cheaper houses, same quality, and a growing infrastructure only mean equity for you. But you still have the commute if you want to work somewhere other than Temecula.

Or you can do what I did and move to Marion Iowa where nationally it is the safest place to drive according to an All State accident survey and if you are going 5 MPH over the speed limit then you get a ticket. Nice.

Default Yeah, let's all move to Iowa!

Yeah, let's all move to Iowa, eat corn and work at a packinghouse! Oh yeah and shovel snow in the winter and sit in our air conditioned homes 24/7 because it's 90 degrees and 90% humidity at 11pm!

Wow, thanks for the tip Malcom!

I've never seen anything you have seen in 15 years. Glad you like Iowa, go to your cities website and post away.

Default Former Arizonan

Hi there,
I had to write to both of you to say I just moved here from Tempe, Arizona after living there for 30 years. I saw so much change and not for the better there. It used to be a place to escape the traffic but not anymore. Now there is lots of traffic and still the very hot summers.

I escaped the hot summer there this year because I accepted a job in Temecula and moved here in February. I have no regrets at all about my move and absolutely love living here! Temecula (Murrieta too) is in such a great, central location about 40 minutes from the beach, 1 hour from Downtown San Diego (not in rush hour of course), and I think about 2 hours from Los Angeles but I'm not sure since I haven't traveled that far yet.

There is so much to do here and my Mom and I are still new to the area so I find out about new things to do and places to visit all the time from my friends at work. I must say that Old Town Temecula is a fun place to visit and the wineries are fun too. They always have so many activities. There are lots of restaurants here in town and being from Arizona you will like the fact that almost everything here in Temecula is new. There are new places opening up all the time. Of course, Temecula is a lot smaller than most cities in Arizona like Tempe, Chandler, or Mesa and it reminds me most of Chandler and Gilbert because but will lots of hills of course. It is so pretty and green but with the desert to the east it will remind you a little of AZ but minus the cacti. I have heard that Temecula has changed a lot through the years and hopefully we can keep this place more of a secret. Just kidding since I think it's too late for that already.

I wish you both the best and no matter where you decide to settle, from a former Arizonan I think you'll love it here!

I wouldn't go as far as Malcolm, but I would challenge anyone to find a place where there are more red light runners than Temecula and Murrieta. Also, there are a ton of dirt bike punks in raised trucks with attitudes there. Also, people from Murrieta often have a pretty high opinion of themselves, less so in Temecula.

There are a lot of things to do in Temecula. There are a few things in Murrieta but not as much because everyone complains if a business is built near them (a lot of NIMBY there). If I were moving to the area I would look at Menifee. I lived there for 6 years. The schools are nearly as good as Temecula / Murrieta. It is hotter but the smog is no worse in general than Temecula / Murrieta. Plus it is a little more rural (although that probably won't last). It is a bit less expensive for housing. It's a little farther to the beach and you will be driving to Temecula for a night out but is is worth the trade-off.

If you are set on So Cal then it is not a bad area for the money. But I know a ton of people who are leaving So Cal for less traffic, lower taxes, and less people.

I am transfering to Temecula next month from Illinois. Do you have any feedback on Redhawk, Temeku Hills or the Golden Triangle areas? Thanks! Looking for something with a view, but under $500.

Redhawk and Temeuk hills are beautiful, but it will be hard to find anything under $500 there. I would look more into the Golden Triangle area and the houses along Margarita/Murrieta Hot Springs.

I'm actually pretty young (23) and enjoy the area. There's really not a lot for people my age to do (other than Pechanga and head to SD/OC) but I love the area, the natural beauty and the people. My friends and I all went away to school (after living in Temecula for a while) but we've graduated and come back. Some to settle down, some to work and save. I'm personally looking to move up to the Bay Area (software engineer) but I'd come back to Temecula and raise my family in a heartbeat.

BTW - traffic really isn't that bad. If you stay off the main roads (Winchester, Margarita, Murrieta Hot Springs) during rush hour you won't have any problems.

The guy who said there are Dirt Bike Punks in raised trucks hit it on the head!!!

I heard that Tom Metzger lives in Temecula now, does anyone know if this is true?

To those of you moving to Temecula, I would not move near the Casino's (Fyi)
