I currently got a letter in the mail saying that I would "have my Credit Report touched", due to a "over-due/lost book"... I have turned in every book on time that I ever got... Im sort of scared because im young and they should not be able to touch my credit or anything of that sort, is there any suggestions???

If you owe the library money for a lost book or for overdue fees, they can indeed report the debt to the credit bureaus. But it's easy to fix!

I'd suggest you go down to the library and get a printout of what you owe. If it's for a lost book, go check out THEIR shelves, and see if you can find the book - sometimes mistakes are made, and you might get lucky, and find the book right there in the library. Also, check out your own home - once you know the name of the "lost" book, it'll be much easier to spot, if it accidently got put on a shelf in your own home.

But if you can't find the book, just remember that over time, a negative item on your credit report will cost you a LOT more than than you'll pay now in overdue fees.

I told you what I thought in my post above! There's no point in worrying, just get yourself down there, and get it settled - either find the book or pay the fees. It's not that hard!

Tell them you returned it and somebody stole it out of the return box. If it gets reported, you have the right to dispute it.

that is what I did, I called them up and I told them the whole situation, the lady on the phone didnt give a rats ass about it, so I just wrote them a letter explaining the situation. So I hope that helps.

If you really did return it, it's fine to dispute the debt, but... that probably won't change anything. They'll probably still send it to collections.

Is it really worth a negative mark on your credit? in my opinion, paying the debt is the easiest solution. It may not be fair, but getting a negative mark on your credit shouldn't be taken lightly. And it's for the cost of a book? Is it worth the repercussions, over a $50 debt?

The thing is, I dont have that kind of money to purchase things, reason why I started using the library again. and reason I now know that I shouldnt use the library system anymore.
